Human Resources Manager
Amref Health Africa – Corporate & Kenya
MDI Alumni, 2013

The Management Development Institute (MDI) has given me an appreciation of different aspects of management. It has enhanced my leadership skills and now I am able to guide, advise and lead a team in a formal setting.

This programme has made me a better Human Resources business partner. Initially Human Resources used to be a peripheral service but MDI gave me the opportunity to interact with a lot of project teams. In my Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs), I participated in a project implemented by Amref Health Africa in Kenya which involves providing medical services in hard-to-reach areas.

The most rewarding aspect of the MDI Programme was that it gave me the opportunity to develop my management skills. It also exposed me to working as part of a team in an international environment and to conduct independent research. I found that the MDI had been strategically designed in order to provide leaders with the best skills set possible for the job market.

This programme not only equipped me with soft skills that are required for success in the corporate world, but also provided me with a strong foundation, enabling me to link theoretical concepts to practice.

It gave me a wonderful body of knowledge, a valuable set of practical skills, an international perspective, some wonderful role models, mentors and an extraordinary set of contacts, many of whom went on to have distinguished careers. I am proud to be a member of the MDI alumni and would encourage other leaders to join the programme.

I am grateful to Amref Health Africa, Johnson&Johnson, the University of Cape Town and the University of California in Los Angeles for giving me the opportunity to attend this extremely important course.
